Record number of Measles cases in 20 years, CDC reports

Parents of kids on the spectrum, parents of neurotypical kids and non parents – where do you come down on this one?

We are not asking this question to be snide or condescending – given that there are real world consequences, to doing/not doing, that don’t stop with just you or your child, should you bare any responsibility for your action or non action?

News outlets all over the world are all a buzz because there have been a record number of Measles cases.

According to the CDC’s weekly Morbidity and Mortality Report the number of reported Measles cases rose to a level not seen in 20 years. The primary cause140331150242-exp-hm-measles-00001001-story-top for the outbreak of this disease formally on the verge of extinction is from the most unexpected of sources – the Parents. A fear of a causal link between the MMR vaccine and the developmental condition, Autism Spectrum Disorder, has caused high numbers of parents to delay vaccinating their children and in some cases file law suits to prevent their child from receiving this formally unquestioned life saving preventative treatment.  The controversy comes from scientist Andrew Wakefield who published several articles on a link between autism and the MMR vaccine (Autism and Andrew Wakefield).
